Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has revealed that he was so depressed after being badly burned in a plane crash that he offered to pay his friends to end his life.
The musician opened up about the crash and its aftermath in
an interview with Good Morning America.
Barker and Adam Goldstein, also known as DJ AM, were the only survivors when the LearJet they were travelling in to California crashed in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2008.
His security guard and assistant and two others were killed.
Barker recalled the moments after takeoff: "The plane's on fire and my hands are on fire so I unbuckle my seat belt and I jump right into the jet, which holds all the fuel. I basically ignite my whole body in fire.
"I'm so soaked in jet fuel, there's nothing I can do to put the fire out."
More than 65% of Barker's body was burnt and he underwent 27 surgeries during his months in hospital.
It was during this time that he felt so low that he was ready to end things.
"I mean, they had to take my phone out of my room because I was making these phone calls," he revealed.
"I would call friends of mine and go, 'You know, I'll deposit a million dollars into whoever's bank account. Like, I'm done'."
He added that his children Landon, 12, and Alabama, nine, helped him recover both mentally and physically.
But the rocker, who was recently linked to Rita Ora, said he is still not ready to get back in a plane.
"I tell my children, 'When you're ready to fly, I'm ready to fly,'" he said. "So if my son came to me and said, 'Dad, let's fly to Hawaii,' or, 'Dad, let's go to Australia,' I'm in Australia."
DJ AM died from an accidental drug overdose in 2009.
