Ahead OF June 2017 new date for Digital Switchover in Nigeria and other Economic Community of West African States, Continental Broadcasting Service (CBS), owners of Television Continental (TVC) has expressed its readiness for the new phase of broadcasting in the region.
Speaking, while announcing the debut of TVC on DStv and GOtv, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, TVC, Lemi Olalemi, said the broadcast station is fully ready for digitization, stressing that the whole facility at the firm are fully High Definition (HD) compliant.
Already, Olalemi said TVC is already part of the DSO pilot programme going on in Jos, Plateau State under the supervision of the National Broadcasting Commission.
Meanwhile, in line with its commitment towards the democratization of information, as well as its quest to allow Africans tell their stories from the Continent’s perspective, TVC has debuted on DStv and GOtv.
TVC News Nigeria is now available on DStv channel 418 and GOtv channel 45, while TVC Entertainment is on GOtv channel 27.
In a related development, Continental Satellite Limited (CONSAT) has expressed readiness to launch its first Christian Movie Channel, Mount Zion Television.
Speaking on the channel, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye said, “MZTV is the brain child of the Mount Zion Faith Ministries International, Nigeria. A full time Christian drama and movie production organisation known for educational, inspiring gospel movies and theatre productions since its inception in 1985.
Confirming the launch of TVC on DStv, the Chief Executive Officer, CBS, Nigel Parsons, disclosed that with the launch of the channels, CBS is on a momentous step to deepening its penetration and reach across Africa.
“MZTV will be a wholly dedicated Christian movie channel which will neither project sermons nor preaching from churches and organisations in alignment with its mandate. In addition, it will not feature any secular drama and movies from the entertainment circles.”
Bamiloye also added that the channel would serve as a platform for Christian movies and creativity to showcase their production.

Speaking on the partnership, Director of Content, CONSAT, Ms. Addy Awofisayo, said, “CONSAT is committed to supporting indigenous content and sourcing fresh and compelling programming for our customers and we are excited to be partnering with Mount Zion Faith Ministries based on the reputation of the values they project to the society.”
Director IT and Operations, Consat, Funmi Adewon said, they are confident that MZTV is going to be delivering content at high quality.
The Managing Director of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, welcomed the addition of homegrown channels on the DStv and GOtv platforms, which he believes both play a pivotal role in showcasing the channels’ rich content to the rest of Africa. “We are deeply committed to Africa and support the growth of original African programming. The collaboration with Continental Broadcasting Service will complement and expand our range of quality local content on our platforms,” he stated.
